Tuesday? Thought: Why I Love My Kindle Paperwhite

Look at that SCREEN!kindle paperwhite screen

So I’ve been told I talk about this a lot.. and when I polled twitter, they requested that yes, I do a WHY I love my Kindle Paperwhite post. So here it is. You ask, and you shall receive, my friends! These are only SOME of the reasons I love my Kindle so much!

hightlightingSo yeah, you can totally put post-its or whatever you want in a physical book but I just don’t. With the kindle a simple TAP and BOOM you’re good! And then you can view ALL your highlights at the end making quote finding a breeeeze! Also, THE DICTIONARY. My goodness, what a LIFESAVER THAT THING CAN BE!arcaccessFor real. I didn’t think this would be SUCH a huge thing but that SEND TO KINDLE feature that Netgalley and Edelweiss have is KICK BUTT. Simply find out your kindle’s email address [its in settings!] and then your arc’s will be DIRECTLY sent to your kindle the second you get wifi. I mean come on! How awesome??somuchstorageYou can only fit so many bookshelves in your apartment/condo/house/dorm/WHEREVER YOU RESIDE. But with the kindle, you can store HUNDREDS of books in one handy place! And if you want to organize them? The kindle offers “collections” so you can have a ARC collection, a sci-fi collection, a contemp collection.. whatever you want! Obviously this is handy for those who like to keep ultra-organized!ebooksalesWhy did it take me so long to get to this one?? Cuz I was savin’ this puppy! Now, we can allll go crazy with sales, but ebook sales are the best thing since sliced bread. I LOVE THEM. Sureeee bookstores offer coupons, but realistically when do books you WANT TO READ go on sale for 1.99? Next to never? K. That’s what I thought. Happens ALL THE TIME on Kindle! Stock up on GREAT titles for low prices. Can you hate on that?? I think not. bedtimereadingSo you don’t wanna wake your partner, cuz you’re nice like that. Then what’s better? The kindle’s brightness settings are AMAZING and they will not keep ANYONE awake except you while you’re reading your awesomely perfect kindle! Or, if its not waking someone you’re worried about, and its finding the perfect booklight, or leaving a lamp on, or whatever, the Paperwhite is the PERFECT solution. You’ll love it!perfectsizeSimple. It really is. It is SO ADORABLE. The size of the paperwhite is a smidge smaller [I think?] than a mass market paperback Boasting a 6″ screen, and an ULTRA THIN body it fits ANYWHERE! And I mean, for those who travel, or carry books on their commute, helllloooo, this is a necessity! Plus its cuuuuteee! 😉 AND SLEEK!accessorizeSo yeah, silly I know. But, ladies [& gents!] get real, we like things we can pretty up. You can cute-ify your Paperwhite with a cute case! They come in mannnyy different designs and are available on Etsy, ebay, Amazon, at Five Below, and MANY other places! Bonus: ebay has super great prices! convenienceI’m all about convenience. Between the size of the device, the awesome battery life [we’re talking WEEKS here!] the super readable, gorgeous e-ink screen, the price point, the sales, the arc access, and the dictionary feature? UH YEAH this device is a MUST HAVE. And will you miss physical books? SURE! But who says you gotta give ’em up? NO ONE. Get yourself a real book every once in a while! With all the money you save on e-books, you’ll have a pretty penny in savings 😉

Summing Up..

So am I crazy? No. These are all awesome reasons for why you should get yourself an e-reader. Now, maybe you don’t want a kindle, that is fine too. Personally, I like the e-ink screens. I don’t like LCD readers simply because they hurt my head. Now, Nook Simple touch and Kobo also offer e-ink readers. If you have any questions about other readers, or technical questions about the Paperwhite feel free to ask, I would love to offer my help to anyone who is considering buying an e-reader!

Just a note:

No I was not compensated to write this post. This is just out of sheer love for my Paperwhite. And in case I’ve convinced you to buy one..

Buy a Paperwhite

Buy a Case!

  1. Alright, I see why your always gushing now…..hmmm this is making my decision so darn hard! But thanks for the facts. The kindle just gained a few extra points! 😉

    • YES. I should include a screen pic so u see how BOOK LIKE it is. Why is it u need nook book access too??

      • Most of my ebooks are nooks (I had a nook simple touch once upon a time) so I like to still have access to them. Even though I prefer physical books now.

  2. Yay for succumbing to peer pressure (our good sense) and posting early! All great reasons for loving it. Confession but you were the one who convinced me to buy one. I broke mine a few weeks ago and was debating whether to buy another original and it was around the time you were trying to convince Book Rock Betty to buy one and you convinced me too lol so good work because I LOVE it! 😉

    • OMGGG this makes my heart SO HAPPY. Heheheh yayyyy buying cuz of me! and Betty did too!! <333

      So glad you love it!!!!

  3. I <3 my Kindle. I started out with a 2nd gen and my husband got me the 3g one for Christmas last year. Within a month, I dropped it in the toilet – because that sucker goes everywhere with me. Amazon replaced it for free (I literally cried when it stopped working) and I'm a little more careful now LOL. I have the cutest owl skin on it right now and I have my books categorized by which month I'm reading them. It just makes life easier. I still read real books, but I love my Kindle for taking it out of the house and nighttime reading. My booklight fits on it a helluva lot easier than a regular book :) And, of course, Netgalley books are AMAZEBALLS!

    • AH crap! CUSTOMER SERVICE IS GREAT with them! I should have included that!!!

So glad they’ve been awesome to you Janie!!

  4. I just recently got a Kindle and I love it, too! Especially the ‘Send to Kindle’ feature for NetGalley and Edelweiss — it makes reading ARCs so much easier! And I am a HUGE sucker for the sales … I don’t think I go a day without getting a freebie or a sale book. :)

    • Haha! It’s so addicting right? And I LOVE that ARC feature it’s so handy!

  5. My love for my Paperwhite knows no bounds. I’m fangirling right along side you. I live in a cramped one-bedroom apartment with two other people so book space is limited. Of course I have all my favorites but given a choice between buying the paperback or ebook of a new book I’m interested in but is 200+ pages, I’m going to buy the ebook. Generally cheaper too. I don’t buy accessories but I did knit a cover for it that was originally for my Kindle Touch (just as elegant and beautiful of an ereader but I wanted an upgrade). I’m glad there’s someone like me who’s just as passionate about their Paperwhite. <3

    • You rock girl! I agree. I still buy all my faves cuz I’m nuts and must own them but 90 percent of my reading is kindle based! And I would LOVE to see what you knit for the kindle!!!

  6. I have a Kobo not a Kindle, but the same points mostly applies. I absolutely love it! I can’t believe I didn’t get one sooner. I’ve also been told that I gush too much (if that’s even possible) about it too.

    • Hahaha well then good for us loving our readers!!

  7. WOOOOOOO. I don’t have a Paperwhite, but I LOVE my Kindle! Bought it around 2 years ago and it has proved to be a SUPER SOLID investment.

    • YAYYY for kindles!! I do adore the night time reading ability of the paperwhite tho :-P. consider that for when the time comes to upgrade! 😉

  8. I have a Kobo as well but it’s the FIRST EDITION EVER so it’s pretty sucky. I still love it to bits because it’s such a lifesaver when travelling (ix-nay to wondering which books to bring – I can bring them all!) but I would love a more advanced eReader, namely the Paperwhite. So I’m glad you like it!

    • I’m glad you enjoy yours!!! Paperwhite is definitely pretty darn awesome and I agree about not having to wonder which books to bring with you!

  9. I LOVE my kindle. I seriously don’t know how I went so long without one. I debated for a while (okay, a day – I was too excited about making the purchase) between the paperwhite and the fire and ultimately went with the fire since I found a great deal. It’s waaaay more than I actually need, so I regret not going with the paperwhite, but still! My physical books will always be special, but they don’t stand a chance against the convenience of my kindle.

    • AHHH I’m glad you are happy with the fire! I have a nook hd as well and it’s again, more than I need.

  10. The Kindle sounds great :) But I’m very much in love with my new e-reader, The Kobo Glo. It has very similar features, except for the Netgalley part.

  11. Hehehehe Cass you sound kinda like an infomercial in this post! *rereads with Billy Mays voice* BUT WAIT!

    • Bahahahahahah!!!! Thanks!!! Then I did my job!! 😉

  12. SOLD! haha I have the very first Kindle that came out (the one with the keyboard) and I LOVE it, but the paperwhite sounds like it has a lot of updated features. I go crazy buying ebooks when they are on sale, but I can buy 5 or 6 and only end up spending $10! LOVE. Most recently, I was super excited to get Dare You To for $2.99!

    • YESSSS sales are THE BESTTTT. and definitely SUCH a worthy upgrade!

  13. Gotta say….. I LOVE MY PAPERWHITE! and yes yes, fine…. you are the one that convinced me to 1. buy an ereader, but 2. buy a paperwhite. :) I only read on it… lol so this was actually a good post for me to read. I didn’t know about all the bells and whistles. Guess I should start highlighting. haha I also love it for bedtime reading. Mr. Betty used to get so mad about either a light being on…. or the loud thump when my book light would fall off. Plus.. you know I’ve got back problems.. the last thing I need is crappy posture while reading in bed. I can lay on my side… no strain on my neck and prop that little baby up against a pillow. OH… AND… It goes into sleep mode if you fall asleep. I love that. Good point on the brightness. I told you how I have to sit in a creepy chair in the dark for a half hour after getting my neck cracked…. I don’t disturb ANYONE. :)
So yeah… looooove the paperwhite!! 😛 So glad I made a change in my life. bahahaha

totallllyyyy get to highlighting girl!!! And I forgot the TIME LEFT IN BOOK / chapter feature!! LOVE THAT.

SEE, I saved your marriage. LOOK AT THAT.

  14. As an Amazon CEO, I am so glad to see this post. Haha. Just kidding. I want to go for a Kindle Fire HD, but jeez, the Paperwhite is so tempting! My favorite trait that you mentioned is its amazing battery life – week long! I need that in my life. I am using a tablet with the free Kindle app to get by, and it has horrible battery life and gets really hot. Definitely going to let this one be a contender when I go e-reader shopping.
Christine @ Oh, Chrys! recently posted…A to Z Bookish SurveyMy Profile

    • HAHAHAHA I was like wait WHAT AMAZON CEO?! You’re good!!

Battery is like 4-6 weeks!! So great. And I’m not a fire fan, personally. But as I mentioned (broken record=me) that’s cuz I can’t read LCD screens. My head will pound and hate me! But it all depends what you WANT! I JUST wanted a reader :)

  15. As we both know I recently caved too and bought the Paperwhite and while I LOVE it, I really do, I still would prefer physical books…however, every point you made is so legit I’m almost questioning myself, LOL. I did just come across one negative though! While flying, you must turn off all electronic devices…fail. I have to sit there on take off and landing with no book…so annoying. LOVE this post, Cass!

    • Shhhh that is a downfall but but. Yeahhhhh. It’s okay!! 😉

Glad you love your paperwhite too!!!!!!! It’s the bestttt

  16. I’m a die-hard Nook fan. I’ve been planning to sell my Nook Simple Touch for a NST with Glowlight….but I have to admit, you’ve even got me wondering if maybe I want a Paperwhite instead. I’ll have to do some more research. When I was shopping for my backlit eReader, the Nook was the OBVIOUS choice because it was more customizable, had expandable space (up to 64GB), and I liked the idea of being able to take it to a real person if something went wrong, instead of having to ship it off to who knows where. Now that B&N has, in essence, given up on the Nook line though, I don’t know what’s gonna happen. I’ll probably just hang tight until all the shiny new gadgets are revealed closer to Christmas before I make a final decision.

Amazon should totally hire you as a salesperson, though.
Shannon @ Twilight Sleep recently posted…Review: The Bone Season by Samantha ShannonMy Profile

    • P.S. – I HATED my Kindle Fire…thought it was a worthless POS…so there’s some bias there when it comes to Amazon’s eReader products. Plus, as convenient as they are, I can’t help but think of them sometimes as the WalMart of online retailers…some of their practices are questionable and that bothers me. But I don’t know, maybe I’m just thinking about things too much. I should be a consumer and not care! *throws caution to the wind*
Shannon @ Twilight Sleep recently posted…Review: The Bone Season by Samantha ShannonMy Profile

      • Well. If it helps. I also HATE THE FIRE. and love the paperwhite. If u want my reasons on why I choose paperwhite vs glow light we can totally go there! I’ve had both. 😉

And I understand what you’re saying! But yes. BE A CONSUMER.

  17. Cassie, Cassie, Cassie, why are you enabling my desire/need for a Paperwhite? Realistically speaking, I don’t necessarily need it. But I WANT IT after reading this post with all your fantastic reasons for owning one!
