Tackling 2015: A Year of Improvement

tackling2015

Every year, we make resolutions, and promises to improve certain things in our lives.  Half the time, we fail, but more often than not, we succeed at least in some.  This year I’ve chosen a few things I want to do, or do better, in 2015, from ALL aspects of my life.  Some make me happy, some keep me organized, and some are for my well-being.  But all of these are important to me, and I hope you have some resolutions as well!

1. Take a cooking class.

I need to do this! Last year I searched and searched, but I couldn’t find anything that was SCREAMING take me!  This year, I have found out that Sur La Table offers cooking classes, and I will be signing up for at LEAST one.  There are SO MANY OPTIONS!  I would LOVE to take the knife skills class, though!

2. Get back to that camera.

I love photography.  Truly, I do.  My camera and I get along beautifully.  I am aching to get behind the lens again and take some new and beautiful pictures! The best part of this is it requires exploring, which is something else that I truly love to do!

3. Hit that GYM!

We KNOW I did GREAT with this last summer! I lost a few pounds and felt GREAT! But then…. the gym and I parted ways.  Worst of it though, is that I’m PAYING for a gym I don’t use! SO! Sunday, back to the gym it is! And I have scheduled workouts for the next week!  I’m excited, guys!

4.  Eat Better, again.

AGAIN, I did fantastically with this.  [Hello, Summer Slimdown!] I need to drop some things from my diet ASAP, Reese’s? NO.  Healthy snacks are SO necessary.  Do you have favorites? TELL ME PLEASE! I’m in need of great suggestions! Also, any healthy recipes you adore? Tell me!  I need all the options I can get!  Sometimes the research of this is the hardest part!

5.  READ MORE.

Seriously.  Who would think this had to be on my list? I spend hours a week pining over new releases or books to order, but I haven’t even read enough this past year to justify that!  I need to take some screen time away from myself and dive into those pages!  And it will start NOW!

6.  Schedule Posts.

Screen Shot 2015-01-02 at 6.53.49 PMI can not even tell you how exciting it is for me when I have posts scheduled a week or two in advance.  I love the feeling of not having to worry, and having my posts as well as tweets scheduled!  BUT it happens rarely.  2015, I am using my beautiful new planner to make some changes, and make this happen WAY more frequently!

7.  Journal.

I can not even tell you the last time that I successfully kept a journal.  But since the lovely Hannah sent me this beautyScreen Shot 2015-01-02 at 6.34.55 PM I think it is MORE than enough motivation to start again.  Plus, I personally think it will help me be more at peace with certain things on a day to day basis.

8.  New Job, New Life.

I am quite aware that many, many people do not like their jobs, and just do it for the income.  And I understand and respect this.  However, since I was a tiny, tiny, little girl I wanted to love my job.  I have a father who loves what he does, and I see that really shine through in his day to day life.  I want to find what I want to do.  I am still unsure.  Having a bachelor’s in psychology truly doesn’t help much, but I need to make some choices, and find a job that brings out areas that I excel in.  Basically, I want to do something that matters.  And posting insurance payments? It doesn’t.

So what are you intending to do in 2015? Tell me YOUR lofty goals, I can’t wait to hear them!

  1. Great goals, Cass! And I totally get the “need to read more” thing. I love books, but I spend too much time thinking and reading about them and adding more to my TBR, instead of actually sitting down with one! Silly, right?

As for some healthy snacks: avocado on crackers/corn thins, apple/nut butter sandwich, a trail mix (dried fruit, nuts, coconut, seeds) and all of these can be taken on the go. This also make a great breakfast or snack: http://www.theyummylife.com/Refrigerator_Oatmeal Raspberry/Vanilla is my fave and I recommend it, if you’d like to give it a go :)

Happy 2015 and here’s to a year of improvement!

  2. I totally understand the last one, Cass. Don’t get discouraged; your dream job is out there even if you don’t know what it is yet. I promise! Just a short time ago it seemed that finding my own dream job around my hometown would be impossible. I was absolutely miserable at the job I had at the time. Then one day, I saw an ad in the newspaper for a position at my former college’s library– which is where I work now & I love it so much. There’s a job out there just for you too, & I hope & pray that you find it in 2015!!! <3

Ooh! You must tell me which cooking class you decide to take! That sounds like fun :)

I totally get the "need to read more" resolution too. I spend way too much time drooling over books & need to get busy actually reading them! Hahaha

I can't wait to see what 2015 holds for us friend! It's gonna be a good year

  3. These are all such amazing goals! Eating better and working out more is definitely one of them. Even though I’m okay with my weight, I’m still not as healthy as I can be. I always set goals and then miserably fail. I want to be able to pull myself up this year! I also need to read more! I get into reading slumps but I have to remember how amazing it feels to just indulge in a story. And yes! Scheduling posts! It’d be awesome if I could always be 2 weeks ahead. I’m one of those people who gets burnt out after 1 or 2 posts. >< Definitely need to work on that. Best of luck with all your goals Cass! May 2015 bring love, hope and many dreams!

  4. I totally understand about the bachelors in psychology not helping. I just graduated with my bachelors in psych and I’m working in accounting :/ I hope you can get into a job you love doing because that’s so important! Good luck on all your goals :)

  5. Cass, these are amazing goals and so achievable! I totally hear you on the gym membership, I pay for mine and don’t use it either. In fact though… I’m cancelling mine. I realized I HATE the gym. HATE it. I love running outside and I love yoga so in 2015 I’ll be running and joining a yoga studio instead! OMG you totally need to take a cooking class, that just screams cass to me! I love seeing your cooking posts now so I can only imagine what you will come up with after you take a freaking class – kitchen goddess! I totally need to schedule again as well. 2014 was a disaster for me in every area of life, I was an unorganized SHAM so I totally get that refreshing feeling when you have posts scheduled. You will do everything in 2015, I know you will <3

  6. Oh, a cooking class sounds fun! I find that spending time in the kitchen is an awesome way to destress for me, so I hope you have a blast!

I also love the feeling of having my posts scheduled for the week. I slacked off in November and December between school and the holidays, but I hope to get back on it in the coming week. Planners make everything better :)

I wish you the best in 2015!

  7. A cooking class would be SO fun! Even better? Matt is really into cooking, so it could be something we could do as a couple! There is an Art Center just down the street from me and they always have such neat classes – usually one or two weeks each. They have stuff for adult, children (my goal is to find a class my nieces would be into!), Ladies Nights, etc!

There’s also a Y minutes away from us AND Matt has a membership…AND we have exercise equipment downstairs in our basement. I used one of his guest passes last year and while I liked the gym, I prefer to go running outdoors around my town. :/ Not such an easy thing in the middle of winter though..

Are you registered on any food sites? I love TasteSpotting and FoodGawker – thousands of recipes with new ones added daily (users get to add their own!) that you can easily save. There are different search options that make finding recipes SUPER easy. I’m also obsessed with blogs and cookbooks. Eating healthy doesn’t have to mean munching away on boring old celery!

  8. Great goals! I hear you on the paying for the gym membership, but not going thing! I actually recently cancelled mine, after paying for it since Marko was born, but only going a handful of times during that period. Instead, I signed up for unlimited yoga at a studio two blocks from my house, since it’s more motivating for me to walk to the studio, and I had fallen head over heels for yoga! Picking something that worked for ME really helped and I haven’t regretted the decision to cancel that membership! I’m paying more now, but actually using it, so I think it balances out nicely.

I used to journal a lot, but haven’t done so in recent years. I always found that it did keep me balanced though. Alas, just not enough hours in the day. And I also agree with you with less screen time and more reading time — sometimes the Internet can be a black hole, and it eats up all of my reading time. This year, I definitely plan to be more organized with blogging, allowing me to be ahead of schedule, and then focus on the truly important things in life.

  10. One of my goals is about scheduling posts and working harder on my blog. I think your planner is an excellent step towards that! I’ve put together a little binder myself filled with calendars and loose leaf paper so that not only can I always know what’s going up on the blog when but so that I can write down ideas and try to keep track of my goals and challenges better. (In case you can’t tell I’ve made it a small personal goal to get WAY more organized in 2015).

I’m attempting to journal more as well. I had hoped to try writing something everyday but that was a little too much for me some days as I discovered. So I make sure to always jot something down in my Jane A Day journal but in my actual journal/diary I write when I feel like it or have a lot that I need to pour out. I’m hoping to be more consistent by the end of the year though.

    Good luck with your goals!

  11. I loved reading your goals for 2015, C! It’s so much fun to see the ways in which you want to change things up in your life. I’ll definitely be cheering you on every step of the way, and providing any and all moral support necessary!

  12. 1. Take a cooking class, and teach me what you learn.
    2. The new blog will totally help with this resolution! That poor camera just wants to be loved.
    3. BLAH. Stupid gym.
    4. BUT CANDY TASTES SO GOOD?!
    5. Yeah, I’m guilty of wasting time just browsing the Internet when I could be reading or just doing more productive things. I need to get better about this one, too.
    6. All of your organization stuff will totally help with this one! I finally started having stuff scheduled in 2014, and it’s made me love blogging more. Haha!
    7. YAY! I used to journal a ton growing up, but I slacked off in college and never picked it back up. Hmm… this should have been a resolution of mine. Maybe it will be now!
    8. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for you on this front! <3
