By: Cassandra Clare

In a time when Shadowhunters are barely winning the fight against the forces of darkness, one battle will change the course of history forever. Welcome to the Infernal Devices trilogy, a stunning and dangerous prequel to the New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments series.

The year is 1878. Tessa Gray descends into London’s dark supernatural underworld in search of her missing brother. She soon discovers that her only allies are the demon-slaying Shadowhunters—including Will and Jem, the mysterious boys she is attracted to. Soon they find themselves up against the Pandemonium Club, a secret organization of vampires, demons, warlocks, and humans. Equipped with a magical army of unstoppable clockwork creatures, the Club is out to rule the British Empire, and only Tessa and her allies can stop them…

William Herondale ALWAYS.

So we’re in the 1800’s in London in a world of Shadowhunters and warlocks, and demons, and vampires.  Sounds like a lot going on right?  Yeah.  That’s cake to Tessa Gray.  She doesn’t even know what she is anymore, who she can trust, or who her family really was.  Then she meets Will Herondale.  Arrogant but gorgeous, and as rude as they come.  Bring in his best friend, Jem, who is as sweet as pie, and we have ourselves a story worth reading.

All three novels focus on trying to figure out exactly what Tessa derives from, and along the way, we encounter obstacles, mostly involving the Magister and then we get the pleasure of meeting Magnus Bane, and his gang of underworldly creatures.

Just who IS Tessa Gray?

Love is LOVE is Love.

I can not go on enough about how much I loved these books.  Each boasting over 500 pages, I thought it would take me FOREVER to read this trilogy.  But alas, it did not take me long at ALL.  I fell in love with book one, and proceeded to fall in love more and more as the series went on.

My love for the love triangle is ridiculous.  I love Jem, and I love Will.  And though I love Will more, for my own reasons, I can actually SEE why she would want to be with both of them.  There isn’t really much questioning why she would desire either contender.  And the fact that Jem and Will are not ONLY best friends byt parabai [basically, two halves of a whole] makes it all the more intriguing.  But, don’t let me fool you.  These books are not only about love.  While there are some beautiful moments, the majority of the plot surrounds The Institute, and its owner Charlotte.  When they are not being threatened or attacked, it is a nice place for our main characters to resider, and a safe haven for them.

The characters and world building in this book are simply amazing.  I pictured London vividly, and was able to UNDERSTAND every character, their actions, and what they were about.  This includes the minor characters such as Sophie and Jessamine.  But what I truly loved was that I WAS ALWAYS SURPRISED.  I never knew what to expect, and sometimes I was honestly nervous to see what was going to happen.  These are my FAVORITE types of stories!

While this is only a trilogy, and one in which is EXTREMELY well done, I wish it went on longer.  I enjoyed my time with William Herondale [clearly, my fave] and I did not want it to end where it did.

To anyone who loves paranormal, I recommend this series with the upmost confidence.  And to those who don’t?? WELL! I ususally don’t either!  So hop on the Infernal Devices train, talk to me as you read, and let me in on what you are feeling while you read!  Also, a largeeee thank you to Betty my paranormal guru [along with Lauren] for telling me I must read this trilogy!  As always, you were right 😉

TO BE HONEST: I think book two was my favorite, but this series overall is to die for.  I loved it, and Clare’s characters stole my heart.  I say read it, read it, READ IT!

Clare deserves the hype for this series, it is truly unlike anything else I have encountered as a reader!

  1. I love love love this series and basically anything that Cassie Clare writes. Will freaking Herondale. So swoony. Love him so much, but I also love Jem. They are both amazing and just gah…there’s no words I just can’t. I liked this series better than The Mortal Instruments. The characters were just so amazing and I loved getting to see where a lot of things from TMI came from. I can’t wait for more Shadowhunter books!

  2. Eeeee! I love all of the Will Herondale fangirling! I definitely agree with you about the love triangle: normally I can choose one clear ship, but with this trilogy I was really torn. I shipped both, but I loved Will more myself. These books gave me all the feels!

    • I love me some will!!!!

  3. I really should read this series, huh? I mean, I’ve read the first three books from Cassandra Clare in her other series but not these. But come on – London? 1800s? And a love triangle with TWO likeable guys? Definitely seems like something I’d enjoy.
