This post doesn’t even BEGIN to cover EVERYTHING I didn’t read, but bought that was a 2014 release, this is just the top of the list! I have to be more on top of what I am buying and reading in 2015, it is a huge goal of mine. And SO, I will try my best to be better about buying without reading things I already have! Plus, seriously, it was a HUGE Adult Fiction year for me, and so a LOT of these are YA picks. I think that is since I gravitated more towards the adult novels that I have on my shelves!
TTT: Shining Stars of 2014
All Adult, are we surprised? This year was a HUGE adult fiction year for me and I LOVED it so much! On this list alone we have two Historical Novels! I Shall Be Near to You and Necessary Lies. They are amongst my favorite novels, ever. I adored Erin’s writing in I Shall, and Diane’s storytelling and plotline weaving in Necessary Lies was simply outstanding. One Plus One by JoJo Moyes shouldn’t shock ANYONE. It is beautiful, and it brings together people from all walks of life, which is why I love it so very much. The Girl Who Chased the Moon is SO different from anything I’ve read before. Lost Lake was close to making this list, but I decided I truly enjoyed this one a SMIDGE more. The magical realism, and family secrets drew me in and didn’t release me til the very last page! Finally, Shotgun Lovesongs was Nickolas Butler’s debut. I JUST read it and simply fell in love. Male friendship is so rare to find in a novel, and this was done perfectly. I will be picking up WHATEVER he puts out next!
TTT: Top New to Me Authors!
I couldn’t possibly resist this topic! This was the year of SO MANY new to me authors! It was hard to narrow down this list, but I DID IT guys! I read so many amazing books this year, and so many amazing SERIES! Some were older, but they were nonetheless, new to me! I hopped on some old trains and fell in love with some debut authors as well! It was overall, an absolutely wonderful year.
Guys, I fell in love with not one, but TWO fantasy series this year! Thank you to the fabulously talented Laini Taylor, whose words are like music to my ears. And of course, the ever lovely Sarah J Maas for giving me CHAOL. [I still have to finish Heir of Fire, shhhh!]. In addition to fantasy, I found my love of country music immersing itself into a beautiful novel of love and friendship – Emery Lord, you are a goddess! Open Road Summer is among my favorites of the entire YA contemporary genre, never mind just 2014!
