If I Stay &

Where She Went

by: Gayle Forman

In a single moment, everything changes. Seventeen-year-old Mia has no memory of the accident; she can only recall riding along the snow-wet Oregon road with her family. Then, in a blink, she finds herself watching as her own damaged body is taken from the wreck…

It’s been three years since the devastating accident . . . three years since Mia walked out of Adam’s life forever.

Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Juilliard’s rising star and Adam is LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status and celebrity girlfriend. When Adam gets stuck in New York by himself, chance brings the couple together again, for one last night. As they explore the city that has become Mia’s home, Adam and Mia revisit the past and open their hearts to the future-and each other.

thejourneyToday, Betty and I are doing something different.  We put a LOT of thought into this playlist, and we are SO excited for how it has turned out.  It took a LOT of going through the tracks, and figuring out EXACTLY what worked best.  So, Betty and I are escorting you on a journey.  Plug those headphones in and hit play, because scene by scene Betty and I take you through The Journey of Adam & Mia.  We’ll be starting in If I Stay.  And oh.  Grab some tissues.  Its gonna be a bumpy, and VERY emotional ride.

Stuck Like Glue by Sugarland– I chose this because it is perfect for when Adam & Mia realize how much they need each other and love & appreciate their relationship. The pop-y feeling is perfect for this realization!
From Yesterday by 30 Seconds to Mars– A favorite. And this is perfect for when Mia is deciding to stay, or to go, in If I Stay. Especially when Jared Leto [swooon] says “On His Face Is a Map of the World” I think of Mia thinking of Adam and considering him in her decision.

picksbettyStay With Me by Finch– Adam and Mia spend the night reconnecting in NYC. As soon as Adam sees her he knows his feelings never changed and that he loves her just as much as he always did. He doesn’t care about anything other than just being with her for as long as he possibly can.

Carry On by Fun. – I heard this song for the first time when I was reading Where She Went. It immediately reminded me of when Adam realizes Mia never stopped loving him. They realize they are everything to each other and are able to move on together. And of course, there is lots of kissing! 😉

“Come away little light come away to the darkness,
In the shade of the night we will come looking for you.
Come away little light come away to the darkness,
To the ones appointed to see it through.
We are coming for you.
We are coming for you.”
-Maroon 5; Come Away to the Water

“The world moves faster than I knew
Not fast enough to not creep up on you
And the space we put between
So pull me under your weather patterns
Your cold fronts and the rain don’t matter
Because the sun burns what I needed.”
-Something Corporate; Hurricane

“Alone in this house again tonight
I got the TV on, the sound turned down and a bottle of wine
There’s pictures of you and I on the walls around me
The way that it was and could have been surrounds me
I’ll never get over you walkin’ away”

-Tonight I Wanna Cry by Keith Urban

“There’s space between our lives
Hard to face, but I know we try
To revive, bring it back to life
Don’t walk away
Don’t walk away, I’m still standing here
No I didn’t disappear
Now the lights are on
See I was never gone. I let go of your hand
To help you understand
With you all along
Yeah, I was never gone. I never ever left you
Never ever left you, no.”
-Never Gone by Colton Dixon
